The old saying is that every journey begins with a single step. I wish to point out that, before you take that single step, there is a pause. A moment to consider and to mentally refer to your checklist: do I have what I need? Clothes? Ticket? Money? Am I ready?
I think of this because today is the first day of a ten day vacation. I am not used to vacations. Definitely out of practice with going abroad. I am packed, showered, handed off work matters and put in place automatic replies to e-,mails. My bags are double-checked and maybe I haven't forgotten anything important.
My travelling partner is better at this. More prepared. Yet even she was up late last night double-checking. Travel is a push, a challenge and a quickening of the heart. We are about to travel. This is our pause. See you soon.
